What Opening and Toe-Kick Clearance Does a Viking Dishwasher Need for Service?
Short answer
For a DFUD042 the opening is 24 in wide, 34 1/4 to 37 in high and 24 in deep; a VDWU524 enclosure runs 33 7/8 to 35 7/8 in high. - DFUD042: 24 in wide, 34 1/4 to 37 in high, 24 in deep including the drain hose and door panel, and at least 2 in from a side wall in a corner. Its height adjusts from 34 1/8 to 36 7/8 in.
- VDWU524: an enclosure 33 7/8 to 35 7/8 in high, the front feet raised with the adjusting wrench and the rear feet with a screwdriver.
Why the toe kick comes off first
The DFUD042 toe kick adjusts from 1 1/2 to 4 7/8 in and is held by brackets that a grey tab locks against the outside edge of the unit; that tab is what comes free first. The feet sit behind it.
Room in front, power behind
With the door open, the DFUD042 reaches about 49 in on Viking’s drawing; keep that floor clear. Its 6 ft cord goes to an outlet under the sink, never an extension cord. The VDWU524 wants its own grounded circuit on a 15 A fuse or breaker.

- Build the opening to the exact model's drawing and keep that drawing with the kitchen paperwork.
- Fix the toe kick with its own brackets, clips or screws, never grout, caulk or adhesive.
